The practice owner has a separate cottage near to the clinic that will be available for the student to use, free of charge, during the  externship if they so choose.   If the student would rather obtain their own housing, there are several hotels in the area that will rent out on a weekly basis.   The student may bring a pet to stay in the cottage if they so choose and may bring it to the clinic during the day if needed.
