SICSA Pet Adoption Center, Kettering, OH

Description of Elective Experience:

SICSA Pet Adoption Center is committed to our mission of  "Promoting the welfare and adoption of companion animals, and nurturing loving, lifelong relationships between animals and people."

We run a robust adoption program for dogs and cats, adopting more than 1600 pets annually. We offer our pet’s medical care, enrichment and behavior modification during their stay at our facility. We support humane educational programs for children, teens and adults as a way to promote better treatment of pets in our community. Our clinic spays and neuters over 4,000 pets annually both for publicly owned pets and SICSA adoptable pets. We are dedicated to helping pets stay in their current homes and offer multiple intake diversion programs including medical care, behavioral support and short term housing for pets.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

SICSA Pet Adoption Center employees two veterinarians with great experience to share with you, please read a little about both of them below.

Dr. Lindsey Roth grew up in Mishawaka, IN.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Saint Mary’s College in 2006 and her DVM from Purdue University in 2010.   After graduation, she practiced small animal medicine in Troy, OH for three years. She began her position as SICSA’s in-house veterinarian in 2013.  Her experience in private practice was valuable and enjoyable, but she knew that shelter medicine was where she belonged after performing an externship at the Montgomery Co. Animal Resource Center during her fourth year of veterinary school.   At SICSA, she is responsible for performing intake examinations, providing medical care for animals in the adoption program, performing spay/neuter surgeries, and seeing public clients through our intake diversion programs.

Dr. Joyce Voss grew up in Los Angeles, CA.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology from Stanford University in 1997.  Although she was initially intending to go to medical school, she developed a passion for veterinary medicine during college.  She worked for six years as a veterinary technician at a local small animal emergency practice.  She received her DVM, as well as a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of California, Davis in 2006.  After graduation, she practiced small animal medicine in West Hollywood, CA for three years and then relocated to Upland, CA to practice small animal emergency medicine/general practice for five years.  At that practice, she also helped teach and train veterinary and veterinary technician students.  When her husband received a faculty position at Wright State in 2014, they moved with their two sons to the Dayton area.  She worked and was medical director at a local private small animal practice for three years.  She joined the SICSA pack in November of 2016 as our primary spay/neuter veterinarian, and has found her experience here to be fulfilling and rewarding.
