Description of Elective Experience:
Assist or perform surgeries (spays and neuters) at at animal shelter. Examine sick or injured shelter animals, develope treatment protocol, suture minor lacerations, vaccinate pets, perform heartworm and FeLV tests, drawing blood for testing, fecal exams, and skin scrapings, place IV catheters.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
Fully equipped surgery rooms with 2 tables and monitors. Veterinary clinic within walking distance with 5 veterinarians on staff.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
Flexible, depending on students desire to learn.
