Description of Elective Experience: 

Opportunity to participate in medical and surgical cases including preventative medicine visits, simple and complicated medical problems and workups, preforming basic surgical procedures such as OHE and neuters, participating with veterinarians on more advanced surgeries, performiing dental propylactic cleaning and radiographs and participating in extractions

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Two veterinarians, 3 licensed technicians, 3 veterinary assistants, 2 receptionists and an office manger

Idexx Catalyst and Lasercyte machines, ultrasound, film radiographs, digital dental radiographs, dental unit with high speed drill, Ellman Radiosurgery, Isoflurane, pulseox monitors, Cardiopet ECG, IV fluid pumps, Avimark software

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

We are open Monday and Wednesday 9am to 7:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 5pm, and Saturday 9qm to noon. The student will be expected to be present most but not necessarily all these hours. In addition we are on call 1 or 2 nights per week until midnight which can have educational value. The student will start by shadowing and be encouraged to do procedures/communications as interest and abilities dictate.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info): 

Both Dr. Payne and Dr. Iliff have extra rooms and would be willing to share in offering housing during the externship. Possible arrangements to keep a pet at the clinic may be made.
