The externship will consist of both food animal and small animal medicine and surgery. The practice focuses on herd health procedures such as vaccination program design and implementation, pregancy diagnosis and ultrasound. The small animal consists of both appointments and surgeries. We work closely with 3 different county humane societies to provide supervised surgery experiences for the extern.
The practice consists of one board certified veterinarian in beef cattle practice, a mixed animal new graduate and a small animal veterinarian. There are 4 support veterinary assistants.
Students will have the opportunity to assist Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8-5, Thursday and Saturday 8-12. They will be able to participate in after hours emergencies also.
Depending on the student, they can stay with either veterinarians. Usually students do not bring their pets to our home.
