Description of Elective Experience: 
  • Treatment of patients in the hospital including oral meds, injections, SQ fluids, feeding
  • Entering treatments and SOAPS into the computer, answering phones when needed.
  • Going over cases/husbandry with clients.
  • Helping the doctors get medication prescriptions ready for clients
  • Demonstrating medications with clients.
  • Cleaning up cages, floors, etc.
  • Going into appointments with the Dr’s and the techs... restraint for exotics, nail trims, wing trims, etc
  • Helping technicians with x-rays
  • Observing/Assisting in surgery/ultrasound/endoscopy
  • Necropsy/collecting tissues for histopathology

In house lab services: microscopy; fecal analysis (direct, float, gram stain); DTM fungal cultures; urinalysis; chemistry blood work; PCVs and CBCs; digital radiography; ultrasound; laser therapy; endoscopy; radio-surgery, CT Scan on the way in the next 6 months)

Staff: 6 FT veterinarians(1 intern, 2 residents), 7 FT LVT's, 4 FT techs, 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

We would like students to come in 40 hrs a week.  They can choose either AM or PM shift.  They can choose a day off during the week and we would like them to come in on Saturday.  Help with treatments on Sunday if needed.
