Our hospital is open seven days a week; externs are expected to be present Monday through Friday from 8:00am to close (our last appointments start at 5:30pm), as well as one weekend day during the elective block. Students will alternate between scheduled appointments (wellness, urgent care, and emergency), surgery, and drop-off exams.
We expect hands-on, engaged learning from our students. Externs should be prepared to examine patients, write SOAPs to direct their thought process, interpret diagnostics, review cases with the supervising DVM, and communicate directly with owners. We encourage thoughtful questions and are committed to teaching.
