Our Applied Pathology Elective Clerkship (VEM5851; also referred to as: "Advanced Pathology Clerkship") is a course offering students further exposure to Anatomic Pathology. The goals of the course are to provide additional experience in gross necropsy and an introduction to histopathology (both for necropsy cases and biopsy cases). Furthermore, this course is intended to give the student an idea of the training required to become anatomic pathologist and a concept of a career in veterinary pathology.
Training/instruction is supported by nine pathologists and six residents. The majority of training occurs in one of three multi-headed microscope rooms, in our necropsy suite, in our histology trimming room, and in a variety of conference rooms (for rounds sessions).
Students typically spend the mornings with the pathologist and resident at biopsy read-out, they will then attend the daily rounds session at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, and then spend the afternoon with the pathologist and resident on necropsy duty, which starts at 1:00 pm. Weeks are Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-5:00 pm each day, for a total of 40 hours per week.
Traditional student housing is not available, however the University of Florida does offer guest housing at affordable prices. Please refer to the following link: Guest Apartments - CONFERENCE SERVICES (ufl.edu)
