Description of Elective Experience: 

Gain exposure to the different facets and methods of the UMN Secure Food Systems Team's Great Lakes VHS of fish risk assessment that is currently in progress; summarize observed implementation of VHS testing requirements and use of aquaculture disinfectants as witnessed during previous field experience with MN and WI DNRs; help develop a document that can be used for outreach and extension regarding the VHS risk assessment work.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Faculty/staff: Drs. Alexander, Marusak, Martin, Cardona, Culhane, and Goldsmith, and Ms. St. Charles.

Equipment and workspace: Student is expected to provide his own computer. Student will be provided a work space in 144 Vet Sci Bldg at the UMN CVM campus for the duration of his time at UMN CVM.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Student will work 4 hours per day Monday thru Friday on-site with the Faculty and Staff of the Secure Food Systems team. The other four hours a day, the student will work with UMN faculty and staff at the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Laboratory with Dr. Nick Phelps, Director, and his staff.
