University of Pennsylvania College of Veterinary Medicine - Scott Laboratory, PA

Description of Elective Experience: 

Extern will have the opportunity to participate in leishmania research, develop a project for the extent of their time, and shadow lab members and researchers. The student will learn the basic principles of conducting university funded research and writing research papers. The student will conduct in-depth reviews of scientific literature as well as perform bench work experiments relating to their project.

Resources include a fully-funded and functional university laboratory

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Student is expected to arrive each day and complete the necessary experiments for their project. They should update the PI with their progress or if they have any questions. They may also spend time outside of the laboratory reviewing scientific literature and research papers. Goals include working under the supervision of trained personnel, active participation in the laboratory, maintaining constant communication with researchers, understanding sterile technique, and adherence to laboratory safety measures.
