Description of Elective Experience: 

The student will observe and assist veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians, and veterinary assistants in examination and treatment of canine and feline patients. Tasks will include reviewing SOAPs and exam notes, treatments of hospitalized patients, running in-house lab work, assisting in positioning for radiographs, kennel help and hospital maintenance.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

AAHA-accredited, Certified Feline-Friendy practice opened in 2007 in upper Manhattan.  Currently one FT Veterinarian/practice owner and 2 PT associate veterinarians.  3 certified LVTs, 2 veterinary assistans currently enrolled in CUNY and SUNY programs.

Prctice Managemnt software is Intravet.  Idexx in house lab, digital rads and dental rads, ultrasound.  Full surgical suite for soft tissue procedures such as spay/neuter, mass removals, dentals, spleenectomy, cryporchid, enucleation.

We are happy to work with rescue organizations in our area.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Student is welcome to shadow the staff Monday through Friday 8:30 am - 5pm with a midday break.
