VCA Findlay Animal Hospital, OH

Description of Elective Experience:

Participation in outpatient and inpatient medical and surgical cases, triage and history taking and assessment of cases.  We are a full service AAHA accredited hospital and we cover our own after hour emergencies.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

We have resources of many specialists that are part of the VCA network and VIN.  Our equipment includes digital radiology, endoscopy, ultrasound and an in house laboratory.  We have very capable veterinary technicians that provide treatments, place catheters and do surgical preps and anesthesia.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

The normal days will be 8-10 hours with mostly observation but we would like to provide some hands on work for the student as well.  We usually do not allow students to perform surgical procedures on our regular patients but they can assist.  We usually are able to schedule some spays and neuters, either farm cats or shelter patients that the students can do on their own under our supervision.
