Description of Elective Experience:
The student would shadow the ER veterinarians to gain knowledge and skill. If the student shows promise then they will be given the oppertunity to assist in surgery, laceration repairs and other treatments, diagnostics and skills
The student will be involved in the discussion of cases
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
5 staff ER veterinarians
Full surgery capabilities - ER
Ultrasound
Digital radiology
EKG, doppler, other monitoring equipment
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
Any shift available as we are a 24/7 clinic - days, mid shift, or overnight
30-40 hours/week
At least 1 weekend in a 2 week externship
Shadowing and actual support - the student must be willing to help the technicians as they need as well as the veterinarians
