The Veterinary Center of Hudson, OH

Description of Elective Experience:

VCH offers a small animal general externship with some emergency cases at an AAHA hospital with a large case volume and great clientele.

Our practice offers 30 minute appointments to give appropriate time to work through different cases and to discuss patient care.

Team rounds are done every day and a monthly educational meeting is held at lunch time once every month.

Some advanced services provided at VCH include:

digital radiology, ultrasonography, consults with internal medicine, orthopedic and soft tissue surgeons, laser therapy, dental radiology and extractions

We will be able to provide housing in the near future if needed free of charge at our hospital.  Please call us for more information.  We look forward to helping you learn and enjoy the profession as much as we do!

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

We have  a board certified equine internal medicine specialist turned small animal dvm and 3 other dvms with various interests.

We provide a large library of books for working up cases and also have a vin subscription.

We also consult with 2 local referral hospitals with all major specialists on a daily basis.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

Students will be expected to see about 4  cases on their own with an associate veterinarian supervising their diagnostic and therapeutic plans.

Students will follow up on their cases and perform all surgeries with an associate veterinarian.

Students will also be on call to answer phone calls until 11pm at night and will consult with an associate veterinarian to determine the best option for the patient/client.
