The student will have exposure to Emergency and critical care cases including but not limited to emergency surgeries/anesthesia, emergency procedure, evaluation of lab testing (including CBC, Chemistry, Blood gases, Viscoelastic coagulation tracings), imaging (plain radioigraphs, ultrasound) and patient monitoring.
Staff: Dr. Ayman Wassef, BVSc, Dr. Carol Yeisley VMD, Two certified veterinary technicians., one certified veterinary assistant. and multiple veterinary assistants.
Equipements: IDEXX in house diagnostic lab. VCM Viscoelastic coagulation (TEG), Sound vet digital radiographs, GE Logiq 7 Ultrasound console.
The student will be responsible to perform physical exam, SOAP, communication with the owner, evaluating diagnostic results and discussing the results with the supervisor, generate a differential diagnoses list, establish treatment plans and daily hospitalization orders, discharge of patient.
The student will also be responsible to attend three 1 hour journal clubs per week. Topics will be chosen in advance with the supervisor.
The student will be responsible for one 1 hour presentation per rotation. Topic should be related to emergency and critical care medicine.
