Description of Elective Experience:
We are a 24 hour emergency only hospital. No specialty. We manage emergency cases such as DKAs, blocked cats, septic patients, congestive heart failure… Etc. Lots of emergency surgery as well including foreign bodies, splenectomy's, pyometra
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
We normally schedule 40 hours a week, externs are the sole extern on at a time
Expectation is communicating with the doctor they are shadowing, discussing cases, observing procedures, scrubbing into surgeries.
