Description of Elective Experience: 

Veterinary students will focus on learning interpretation of radiographs and ultrasound. There is very limited time available for hands on ultrasound training. There will also be exposure to CT and nuclear medicine (primarily thyroid scans). Multiple teaching resources are available for students to review for further training. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, nuclear medicine, MRI (off-site), AAVR teaching resources, multiple imaging studies available for review. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Students should attend daily radiology rounds, assist in holding ultrasound patients, work with diagnostic imaging fellows on interpretation of images from in house cases and from the teleradiology service, and work through the extern case files.  The students will work from 7:30 or 8 am - 5 pm daily. If the service is busy, they may be expected to stay later. There is no primary case responsibility. Radiologists will work with the students during rounds and intermittently on cases throughout the day.
