Description of Elective Experience: 

Shadow any of the specialty services:

internal medicine

Surgery

ophthalmology

critical care

emergency medicine 

anesthesiology 

medical and radiation oncology 

neurology 

ability to participate in morning rounds, journal club, Tuesday morning lectures 

ability help with patient care and discuss cases with all clinicians.

ability to shadow clinicians into rooms to interact with clients.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

CT, MRI, digital radiography

linear accelerator 

5 OR suites 

Fully staffed critical care unit 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

5 days a week - 10 Hours a day

if shadowing a specific service, expected to come in and leave same time as clinician 

expected to actively participate in rounds

help with patient care, placing catheters, monitoring anesthesia, holding animals for exams.

shadowing specialist into rooms to interact with clients.
