Description of Elective Experience: 

Broad array of small and large animal medical and surgical experience including but not limited to: wellness visits for pets, dermatology, elective surgeries, orthopedic surgery at our Rockville location, critical medicine case management, dealing with common emergencies such as hit by cars and rat poison consumption, cattle herd visits, livestock obstetrics, equine visits (commonly colics and lacerations), chiropractic and acupuncture of both large and small animals, canine rehab, etc.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

We have CR, ultrasound (for small and large), cold laser therapy, inhouse lab diagnostics.  We have many techs to help with technical skill such as blood draws, catheter placements, wound therapy.  Many of our doctors have specialized areas of interest such as equine repro, bovine repro, diagnostic ultrasound, cruciate, luxated patella, and fracture repair surgeries, canine rehabilitation, chiropractic, and acupuncture.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Students will be expected to be here the whole time we are open.  Mondays and Wednesdays 8-7, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8-5 and Saturday 8-12.   Students will be performing exams with doctor supervision and then encouraged to work through cases with our supervision.  Students will be challanged with critical thinking as well as diagnostic interpretations.  Able to participate in surgeries and other procedures whenever possible.

We do have a small bedroom and bath in the 2nd floor of our Rockville location that is available to most students.
