Description of Elective Experience: 

Willow Creek Veterinary Service is a 2 doctor practice in Medina, OH. Our caseload is approximately 60% equine (primarily ambulatory) and 40% small animal (in clinic). In addition, we see a small number of camelids and ruminants. Students will shadow doctors on ambulatory and in-clinic appointments, as well as assist in surgery and with hospitalized patients.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

In addition to 2 doctors, we have a practice manager, a receptionist, one licensed technician and 3 assistants. We have digital radiography, an ultrasound, a tonopen, lab equipment (microscope, centrifuge), EKG, pulse oximeter. We have the ability to hospitalize several small animals or horses.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Students are expected to be present during normal business hours (9am-5pm, Monday through Friday). Students are expected to shadow doctors throughout the day and participate in examination and creating treatment plans. There is the potential to shadow and assist doctors with after-hours emergencies on evenings and weekends.
