The elective experience at Wishing Well Veterinary Hospital will include a day filled with the opportunity to learn about the "typical" day at a general small animal hospital, which the student will quickly learn is never "typical". We are a busy two doctor practice located in Wayne,NJ, located approximately thirty minutes from New York City in northern New Jersey. Wishing Well is an exclusively small animal practice seeing only dogs and cats. Our schedule allows us to see animals of every life stage, providing service from wellness exams and vaccines and routine blood tests to working up sick animals, and ultimately offering euthanasia if warranted. Surgery is performed routinely three days a week and on an emergency basis if needed. The candidate will have the opportunity to scrub in and assist if desired. Wishing Wel Veterinary Hospital is also proud to care for the working canine force of the Passaic County Sheriff's Department. We love the opportunity to teach and to learn from our students!
The practice is equipped with a digital radiograph, dental radiograph machine, cardiopulmonary monitoring system, tonopen, microscope, in-house labratory and an ultrasound machine, albeit antiquated! We have ample technicians and vet tech assistants and a tremendous CSR staff. We are not a huge hospital and our culture is warm, friendly and accepting. Our clientele is amazing! Here in Northern NJ, we are surrounded by several exceptional referral centers including Eclipse, Oradell AH, Red Bank AH., AERA and Blue Pearl.
Our hospital hours are currently Monday through Friday. (M,W,F 8-5, T 8-7, Th 8-6) We are closed on Saturday and Sunday and use a local VEG for emergency services.
Whatever schedule works best for the candidate will most likely be accomodated. I am very comfortable for the candidate to be able to lend actual support wherever they feel they are ready.
