Sploot Veterinary Care is introducing a brand new approach to veterinary care in the form of Urgent & Primary Care Clinics, and we are currently seeking a talented 3rd or 4th-year Veterinary Student to join us for our Sploot CAMP (Coaching and Mentorship Program) summer externship and help us provide the ABSOLUTE BEST medical care to our patients.
Position: Veterinary Student Extern
Location: Multiple options in Denver, CO and Chicago, IL
Duration: Flexible (2 to 8 weeks)

- You are authorized to work in the United States

Large animal, on-farm, as well as some in clinic experience-physical and lameness exams, herd health plans, pregnancy checks, vaccinations, preventative care, diagnosis, pain management, addressing client and/or patient concerns, as needed, as well as other services, including emergencies
The VEG Externship Program provides students with an exciting, well-rounded emergency medicine experience. Students in the program work alongside our skilled emergency doctors and support staff, and may even have hands-on learning opportunities. Emergency medicine is unpredictable in nature, it keeps you on your paws! Students will focus on learning how to communicate effectively with our clients, diagnose a variety of emergency conditions, develop emergency treatment plans, and collaborate with support staff in a fast-paced environment- all the while being fully immersed in the VEG culture.

Northwest Equine Performance (NWEP) is an equine sports medicine clinic and advanced diagnostic imaging center located in Mulino, Oregon. Our knowledgable veterinarians evaluate the whole horse, not just the suspected injury, when developing a treatment and rehabilitation program for your horse. We work very closely with owners and trainers to assess the horse throughout the recovery period and provide detailed rehabilitation protocols specifically designed for each horse individually, not just the injury in general. The advanced diagnostic center includes radiography, ultrasound, CURO, upper airway endoscopy, nuclear scintigraphy (bone scan) and a standing MRI. We have the ability to combine our detailed lameness exams with whatever diagnostic imaging necessary to find you an answer. We also offer the best and most up to date treatment options available in equine sports medicine today. We pride ourselves on being informed and involved in the constantly changing field of orthobiologics and regenerative medicine. Our veterinarians work closely with human orthopedic and regenerative medicine specialists to provide you with the best treatment options available for your horse. - Student would join a full time farrier practice for 2 weeks.
-student would be involved in cases in ways ranging from formulating case Rx with the farrier to actually helping w the farriery. (Ie- pulling shoes, clinching, etc)
Student would likely be involved in dissection of distal limb, trimming, shoe fitting, and nailing on cadaver foot, and shop time in the forge.
Student would likely encounter time with veterinarians in the field as the farrier and vet team work together on cases.
Tufts at Tech student-run veterinary clinic provides low-cost care for family pets within Central Massachusetts' underserved communities. Together, Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and Worcester Technical High School address the healthcare needs of the area's beloved animal companions, under the leadership of Dr. Greg Wolfus.
Tufts at Tech Community Veterinary Clinic provides citizens of Greater Worcester with compassionate and affordable veterinary care. Our clientele must pre-qualify to receive our significantly subsidized animal care. Final year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) candidates and Worcester Technical High School students enrolled in the Veterinary Assisting program work collaboratively in this innovative teaching facility under the direction of experienced, highly-trained veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians to provide quality primary care for family pets.
Our practice is a rural Montana, mixed animal practice that is located in the heart of ranching country. We do some small animal work, but the majority of our work focuses around cattle and horses. Student will be here close to the peak of pregnancy testing cattle. There will also be equine work, and a small amount of small animal work.
Come experience daily life in a privately owned general practice with an experienced small animal team. Students will be immersed in case management, client communication, discussion of a spectrum of care approach to cases, dental, and surgical procedures. You will leave this externship with an understanding of daily life in general practice, how to navigate common client communication challenges, and an appreciation for the role of the veterinary team. Your externship will be led by Dr. Kate Boatright, a veterinarian with years of small animal GP and ER experience who has mentored numerous students and new graduate veterinarians. As the author of the Veterinary Mentorship Manual, regular contributor to veterinary publications, and speaker at veterinary schools and conferences around the U.S, Dr. Boatright enjoys teaching and facilitating learning in the clinic.
Students fully participate in all aspects of our food animal practice with a concentration on dairy production medicine. Our goal is for students to refine their skills including palpation/ultrasound,surgery, obstetrical skills, diagnosis and management of sick animal cases.
