BluePearl Veterinary Partners is a community of hospitals that offer specialty and emergency veterinary medicine. BluePearl is staffed by veterinarians, veterinary technicians & other veterinary professionals who are community-focused and service-minded. We strive to create a welcoming environment for clients and their pets, even at the most stressful of times.
The primary care veterinarians who refer their clients and patients to us are our partners. BluePearl’s obligation is to work together with the primary care veterinarians to provide the best patient care available.
As important as our medical expertise is, compassion is the foundation of veterinary medicine. At BluePearl, we believe that excellent care combines state-of-the-art veterinary medicine with a focus on compassion and respect for our clients and their pets.
• We treat our patients as we treat our own pets.
• We treat our clients as we treat our family friends.
• We treat your family veterinarian as our partner.
While you are here we hope we can embolden you to hold these standards as well.
BluePearl Veterinary Partners offers externships of one to two weeks in duration to third and fourth year veterinary students. All students must be enrolled at an AVMA accredited university and have legal work status in the USA. As a comprehensive private specialty hospital, we offer rotations through the following specialties: Critical Care, Dermatology, Emergency Services, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Cardiology and Radiology. There are other opportunities to also experience Interventional Radiology, Hemodialysis and Dentistry. Individuals are paired with an attending clinician throughout the rotation as well as the intern/resident on the service. We invite inquiries about our internship program at any time. The nature of involvement with cases is primarily an observational role although students are heavily involved in case management and discussion. Currently, externship opportunities are available at all four of our New York City hospitals.
Externs can expect to spend 8-10 hours per day with internist, surgeon, or emergency clinican. Discussion of cases including differentials, diagnostics, therapies and outcomes will be expected. Hands on experience is dependent on case load and type of case. At times, students will be directed to another service to experience unique or interesting cases/procedures. Free time between cases is to be spent reading/studying.
