We are a small animal general practice with two and a half full time equivalent veterinarians. We see routine annual exams as well as sick visits and have the capability of offering digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, video otoscopy, and in house labwork. The student would gain a wide range of experiences in general small animal practice and various routine and non routine surgeries (OVH, castration, abscesses, dentals and extractions, mass removals, exploratory laparotomy, etc). All doctors are willing and excited to teach eager participants.
We expect students to be eager to learn and show an enthusiasm for the profession. They must be willing to pitch in and help with even the most mundane of tasks. Their primary responsibility would be to shadow the doctor and learn and provide assistance where needed. In return, we would do our best to explain critical thinking and working through our differential diagnoses.

We offer an externship for 4th year students in our emergency and critical care department. Hours are either 7am-6pm or 4pm-2am. We encourage students to spend time on both shifts as they can be quite different. Students will go into exam rooms with doctors, perform their own exams and discuss a plan. They may also be asked to help with technical duties during down times. Other specialties in the hospital that students may be exposed to include: Surgery, Dermatology, Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Internal Medicine and Pathology.
Student is to ride with a doctor every day and participate in all aspects of practice: Repro (herd checks), surgery, medicine, consults, emergency duty at night. We encourage a lot of hands on participation and case work ups. We also welcome students to sit in on business meetings (every Tues over lunch).
