Boulevard Veterarinary is a full service small animal general practice in Chicago, IL. We are an AAHA accredited practice and have three locations throughout the city. Students are expected to rotate between at least 2 but preferably all 3 locations. They will be shadowing DVMs for appointments and surgeries and will be encouraged to perform physicals, name differentials, develop treatment plans, and possibly assist in surgery.
Our hospital features a forward-thinking approach to equine practice and utilizes the latest in technology and equipment. Our practice also includes an off-site breeding facility along with a full rehabilitation clinic. We are a full-service practice providing routine/preventative care, internal medicine and surgery with a focus on sports medicine for our western performance horse athletes.
The goals of the externship are to provide a high level of exposure to broaden the interests and skills of veterinary students.
The extern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, friendly environment. This program will provide the extern with enough clinical exposure to pursue further studies in areas of interest in equine medicine.
Our programs focus on:
- Further enhancing diagnostic skills.
- Increasing hands-on knowledge base in areas including sports medicine, internal medicine, surgery, reproduction, and imaging.

All Creature Features Animal Hospital is a five doctor AAHA accredited small animal veterinary clinic. We have a busy daily caseload which will provide a veterinary extern a good opportunity to gain a lot of exposure to daily veterinary practice. The extern will be allowed to assist the veterinarians with appointments, surgeries, and medical workups. During appointments the extern will be given the opportunity to interact with clients, perform examinations, and begin a medical workup for the case. We schedule surgeries ever day, Monday through Friday, and can easily provide the extern with adequate surgical opportunity. On difficult cases our veterinarians work together as a team and we would gladly welcone input from a senior veterinary student. We promote thorough exams and workups with sick patients. Also, we promote yearly wellness exams to try to identify problems that may be subclinical. We feel that an externship in our practice would prove to be a very rewarding experience.
We are a HVHQSN low cost clinic that focuses on spay/neuter, but we also do many other kinds of surgery because of our large rescue base. We do dentals and rabbits as well. It would be a fast paced, packed learning experience with a lot of surgical experience. A lot of perfecting your surgical technique, hands on dental work, and constant learning in a fun, supportive environment.
We are a newly remodeled facility. We have six exam rooms, a large treatment area, a surgical suite, along with seperate dog and cat wards. We service a large clientele of mostly dogs and cats. We do all in-house labs with Idexx CBC Procyte and Catalyst, that offer telemedicine capabilities. We have digital radiology and will be getting an ultrasound machine in the near future. We offer full dental cleanings and extractions. There is a comference room for students/doctor case review. Student housing is available. We are also one of two clinics that students would have access to work at with both having the same equipment. The clinic has full clinic alarm system for added security and safety. The future plan is to make this a 24 hour hospital when staffing allows. The website has not been updated yet. It will be after the first of the year.

Such assessments are to include: base knowledge of subject matter, development of subject matter expertise, proficiency of epidemiological skillset, work efficiency, effective communication, and professional conduct."
Daily Schedule: The student will participate in weekly, or bi-weekly, calls or online video meetings with the project team to discuss daily and weekly objectives, with additional calls as needed. The timing of these meetings may vary according to the schedule of staff members. Objectives may include tasks dealing directly with team members' needs, or they may include tasks specific to the student's responsibilities within the project, such as data management and analysis. As the entire EpiX staff is working primarily remotely, student learning and engagement will be self-driven, but the collaborative and communicative culture of EpiX should be appreciated, with the student striving to contribute to a productive work environment.
