This is an off site learning experience where students will work side by side with our emergency doctor on cases at our clinic for the two week rotation while s/he is at our institution.

The student will assist doctors in daily rounds and emergency calls and will rotate between doctors.
100% Equine Referral and Ambulatory practice with Board Certified Internal Medicine and Surgery Specialists. Students will be assisting
doctors with emergency ambulatory and referral patients, as well as elective lameness, internal medicine, acupuncture, reproductive and preventive care cases. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of breeds and disciplines.
Students will experience all aspect of a large herd dairy practice. You will be scheduled for herd checks 5 or 6 days a week, and often have the opportunity to participate in surgeries, dystocias, sick cows and milk lab work.
We are a busy seven doctor small animal practice. Comprehensive health care is provided to our patients including preventative healthcare, in house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, acupuncture, physical therapy and other ancillary services.
Observing, discussing, the practice of Integrated Veterinary Medicine in an AAHA accredited practice.
The student will be exposed to all different kinds of medical and surgical treatments of ocular diseases under the supervision of two veterinary ophthalmologists.
The internship training consists of experiential and didactic components. Content will depend on the length of the extern’s commitment and interests, and is tailored to provide broad exposure.
Experiential Training
The experiential component of the program includes exposure to the following:
- Facility rounds with attending veterinarians and husbandry and operations management staff
- Clinical rounds with the clinical veterinary and veterinary technical staff
- Importation and quarantine testing of various species
- Preparation, intraoperative monitoring, and postoperative care of animals undergoing surgical or imaging procedures
- Necropsies under the guidance of a veterinary pathologist
- Physical examinations, administration of parenteral agents, and collection of fluid/tissue samples under guidance
- Veterinary consultations with investigative staff on topics including animal model selection and use, experimental procedures, and anesthetic and analgesic selection
- Rotation through a multidisciplinary clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory

- Investigative staff training seminars and laboratories
Program Duration
The Veterinary Student Internship in Laboratory Animal Medicine and Pathology is tailored to accommodate each student’s veterinary school schedule. A minimum of a two-week commitment is required. Summer preceptorships are also available.

BluePearl Veterinary Partners offers externships of one to two weeks in duration to third and fourth year veterinary students. All students must be enrolled at an AVMA accredited university and have legal work status in the USA. As a comprehensive private specialty hospital, we offer rotations through the following specialties: Critical Care, Dermatology, Emergency Services, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Cardiology and Radiology. There are other opportunities to also experience Interventional Radiology, Hemodialysis and Dentistry. Individuals are paired with an attending clinician throughout the rotation as well as the intern/resident on the service. We invite inquiries about our internship program at any time. The nature of involvement with cases is primarily an observational role although students are heavily involved in case management and discussion. Currently, externship opportunities are available at all four of our New York City hospitals.
