Private small animal practice started May 2013 by Dr. Houser, an OSU CVM 2006 graduate. We focus on preventive care, including AVMA guidelines for canine vaccination, AAFP guidelines for feline vaccines, AHS guidelines for heartworm testing and prevention.  Routine surgeries are performed, including spay/neuter and declawing.  We also have  a strong focus on dentistry and do many dental prophylaxis.  We have dental radiographs as well as a high-speed drill..  The practice is equipped with in-house Idexx blood profile/CBC/snapshot, digital radiographs, and ultrasound.  I have a special interest (but not board specialty) in internal medicine and dermatology.  My associate has a special interest in dentistry, surgery, and also performs acupuncture

Feline only practice for the past 26 years, overall 36 yrs experience. We believe that we excel in the handling of cats and creating as comfortable an experience as possible. Student would shadow Doctor and learn my style of exam, interacting with clients and patients. Decide on a course of treatment/laboratory work on his/her own then discuss with doctor. Learn and execute the handling of different personalities of cats. Learn about surgery in a private practice setting, and to get some hands on experience with direct supervision of doctor. Develop an understanding about how a practice operates, providing quality care but still generating an income. Student would observe the interaction of Dr and employees, and between employees for the smooth operation of the practice and delivering a quality service to clients, giving the clients a sense of comfort and satisfaction.

Description of Elective Experience:

We are a mixed animal practice that enjoys having students come and ride around with us.  We start early in the morning with LA calls, typically herd checks and then go into the open call venue.  The afternoons are reserved for team meetings, consulting, rounds here at the clinic, or SA if anyone is interested.  We have been part of the ambulatory service at UW for over 20 years, and our clients are familiar with having students along.  This is a great learning environment because the clients allow the students to actually do something!

Reproduction is still our main focus on the dairies, but we are seeing more consulting, nutrition, public health, and personel management.  We have bull studs as clients, high end registered cattle, goat dairies, and everything between.
