Our clinic offers a general medicine elective experience to any student. Our clinic sees small animals for a variety of general wellness, maintenance, and diagnosis and treatment of a variety of health problems. We also have a state of the art surgery unit including xray and ultrasound. Included in clinic is the capability for dental cleanings and dental xray as well as laser treatments.
Ag Vets is a food animal, ambulatory practice consisting of 9 veterinarians in southeastern PA. The majority of our work (85%) is focused on serving the various dairy producers in our region. However, our service also includes beef, swine, and small ruminants to varying degrees. We provide generalized herd health and surgical services expected of a traditional food animal practice. We have also placed an emphasis on financial planning and records management as a value-added service for our clientele. Embryo transfer and laproscopic surgical techniques are also unique services we provide in our practice area. Students would be allowed to shadow and/or participate with the bulk of our veterinarians as we serve our varied client-base.
Student(s) will experience the typical caseload of a mixed animal general practice, with emphasis on small animal cases. Student(s) will be expected to gather histories, complete physical exams, develop diganostic and therapeutic plans, assist in managing hospitalized patients, and communicate with clients. Student(s) will also have the opportuity to scrub in and assist in surgical procedures as well as perform routine surgeries/procedures under the supervision of the DVM. Emergencies are seen on a routine basis and student(s) may be expected to be available when needed.
Work side by side with Doctor during all exams, emergencies and surgeries. Discuss each case/diagnosis/treatment with doctors on staff. Client interaction for history and treatment plans. Work with technicians and assistants during treatments and estimate creation. Work to understand workings of practice from scheduling to medical care.

Boulevard Veterarinary is a full service small animal general practice in Chicago, IL. We are an AAHA accredited practice and have three locations throughout the city. Students are expected to rotate between at least 2 but preferably all 3 locations. They will be shadowing DVMs for appointments and surgeries and will be encouraged to perform physicals, name differentials, develop treatment plans, and possibly assist in surgery.
Our hospital features a forward-thinking approach to equine practice and utilizes the latest in technology and equipment. Our practice also includes an off-site breeding facility along with a full rehabilitation clinic. We are a full-service practice providing routine/preventative care, internal medicine and surgery with a focus on sports medicine for our western performance horse athletes.
The goals of the externship are to provide a high level of exposure to broaden the interests and skills of veterinary students.
The extern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, friendly environment. This program will provide the extern with enough clinical exposure to pursue further studies in areas of interest in equine medicine.
Our programs focus on:
- Further enhancing diagnostic skills.
- Increasing hands-on knowledge base in areas including sports medicine, internal medicine, surgery, reproduction, and imaging.
- Sharpening client relationship, management, and communication skills.
- Exposure to staff and procedures not found anywhere else.
The student will be evaluated on their clinical level and then be given tasks according to the level shown. If capable of performing simple type laceration closure and drain placement, then the student will be given more surgical freedom and allowed to perform basic spay and neuter procedures. Taking advantage of the externship experience to shadow the DVM in exam rooms and if shows clical and verbal skills, for the DVM to shadow the student.
Small animal general practice with small percentage exotics (reptiles, pocket pets, birds). In-house laboratory including bloodwork, urinalyses, complete fecal examinations, cytology, etc. On-site diagnostics including digital radiography and ultrasound. Many advanced surgical procedures performed in-house as well as orthopedic procedures (TPLO) performed in-house by traveling surgeon.
Student will shadow veterinarian(s) in all aspects of practice, including outpatient appointments, procedures, client correspodance, emergencies. Additionally, student will particiapte in veterinary technical responsibilites- providing primary patient care, administering treatments, taking samples, etc.
