Hayfield has mentored and served as an adjunct professorships for multiple veterinary and veterinary technician students, doing 9 seniors from Virginia-Maryland in 1 year alone.

This externship is intended to give an overall experience of being a mixed animal practitioner. The student will be working with small and large animal species as well as exotics. The elective offeres surgical experience to the students as well as working up cases and interacting with client communication. As a private practice, we can help a student to learn how a practice is managed and run on a day to day basis.

Holmdel Veterinary Clinic's externship program is both observational and hands-on.  Students will actively participate in all clinic appointments, case management, outpatient treatment, hospital treatments, diagnostics, client communications, and will be standing in for observation during surgery.

14 doctor, 1 CVT, 4 office personnel dairy practice serving 325 dairy farms ranging in size from 30 to 6500 cows in a 75 mile radius from Seymour, Wisconsin.

Shelter Outreach Services of Ohio (SOS of Ohio) is a non-profit organization that provides high volume (HVHQSN) spay and neuter services to lower income public and animal rescue groups, shelter medicine services to animal shelters and rescue groups, and wellness services to animal welfare groups and people on government assistance.   During their rotation, fourth year students will learn about population medicine through medical shifts at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, as well as high volume surgical techniques.   They will receive hands on experience doing surgeries for the dogs at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, as well as dogs and cats (including participation in the TNR program) at the SOS of Ohio Spay and Neuter Clinic.

Students are assigned to a busy 24-hour, 7-day per week emergency service on a shift system. The students are responsible for diagnosis and management of animals presented to the service under the supervision of Emergency Service staff. Emergency Service rounds are held Monday through Thursday inclusive, and include topics related to emergency medicine and surgery centered around case discussion.

Shadowing DVM(s) in general veterinary practice setting. Students can go with doctors into exam rooms for any appointments, participate in the patient evaluation and the creation of differential diagnosis list(s), offer clients diagnostic options, observe surgical procedures with possible opportunty to assist, etc.
