Animal Care Clinic has four locations close to Chicago, Illinois. We are a partner owned (not corporate) small animal practice. We have 19 talented doctors supported by top-notch technicians practicing progressive medicine. The large staff offers a wide range of practice viewpoints and experiences. We offer a full range of medical and surgical services. Each hospital offers ultrasonography, a fully equipped surgical center, digital radiography including dental radiography, and advanced lab testing. We offer underwater treadmill, cold therapy laser and acupuncture, and both rigid and flexible endoscopy.

Externship Details
Length of externships – 2 – 4 weeks
Externship Experience
Come to a multidoctor/multi location small animal hospital to gain real life clinical experience in a fast paced but mentoring environment. Be exposed to small animal clinicians from 20 plus years of experience to recent graduates. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: observing and assisting in soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries; performing spay and neuters with our local rescues; assisting in exam room; performing physical examinations on client owned pets; analyzing in house and reference clinical and pathologic lab results; interpreting radiographs and ultrasounds; assisting in dental prophys.
You will be assigned to a veterinary mentor for the entire externship period. We expect you to work alongside doctors for 20 hours per week with the remaining time (20 hours) to be spent in any and all hospitals at your leisure based on your interests - surgical/exotics/holistic/oncology/dental/management, etc.
Housing and Stipend
We offer a fully furnished apartment with a kitchen and bath/shower with transportation included and a $150 a week stipend.

Animal Health Services is located in Cave Creek Arizona which is the Northern most part of Scottsdale. We have been mentoring students through our hospital for the last 5 years. Externs can expect to see a wide variety of cases from Wellness Exams to Emergency Care. We have dedicated one doctor from our 6 doctor team to directly oversee the extern during their time here. The extern will shadow the doctor in the exam rooms, assist in out patient surgeries and dental procedures. We are well equipped and externs will be exposed to Digital Dental Radiology, Digital Radiology, Surgical Laser and Radiosurgical Units, Cold Laser, VOM, CT Scan, Ultrasound and Endoscopy. The demographics of our clients allow us to practice a high standard of medicine and we are happy to utilize our equipment and our knowledge to provide the best care possible.
Student will be exposed to all areas of lab animal medicine under the direct supervision of DCM veterinarians and facility management. Activities will involve animal health and diagnostic procedures; participation in weekly rounds, journal club, and didactic lectures; and evaluating diagnostic test results such as radiology, clinical pathology, histopathology. Student will be directly observed and supervised at all times during internship
Assisting with small animal, large animal, exotics, and wildlife in clinic, surgery, and farm calls.

Maximum Number of Externs: 2
Estimated Externship Workload: 50 to 60 hours / week assisting with day time appointments and after hour emergencies, surgeries and hospitalized patients
Goals of the Externship: The externship is designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students who wish to gain more experience in a private practice referral setting. We encourage students to commit 2-4 weeks to their experience. The first week emphasizes orientation and training but students will have an active, hands-on externship from the beginning. The externship is also treated as a prerequisite for any possible internship applicants.

Shelter Medicine and Surgery Externship between 3 facilities in Montgomery County (all operated by the MCSPCA). The main facility is located in Conshohocken. There is a small adoption center in Abington with a limited clinic and another full service shelter located in Perkiomenville. Externs will rotate between all 3 facilities with the primary veterinarian. The Perkiomenville shelter is mostly small animal but also has a barn/pasture on-site housing several permanent residence horses and occasionally takes in large animals/livestock.
This is an opportunity for veterinary students to be involved in the daily activities of a solo equine practice working with Sport horses,Western Pleasure and work horses. Daily cases include lameness evaluation, reproduction, medine and emergency medicine and surgery. I have been licensed to practice for 31 years. I am a graduate of The University of Florida (1987), completed a medicine/surgical internship at Rood an Riddle Equine Hospital (1988) and an Equine Surgery Residency Program at The Ohio State University (1988-1991), (Diplomate-LA ACVS) and spent five years (2004-2009) as an Assistant Professor in Equine Ambulatory Service, OSU-Columbus.
