Description of Elective Experience:

Equine Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation (ESMR) is an equine-exclusive practice with three divisions: 1) Clinic in Pilot Point, TX; 2) Rehabilitation Center in Whitesboro, TX; 3) Mobile unit that travels the Quarter Horse show circuit. The clinic division of our practice sees mostly outpatient sports medicine and lameness cases, while also offering general care and hospitalization for everything from foals to the geriatric horse. Caseload is heavy in diagnostic imaging, pre purchase evaluations and lameness therapeutics. Our fully equipped rehabilitation center offers customized plans for a spectrum of both healthy and injured athletic horses. Services include aquatic therapy and all aspects of physical therapy tailored for a horse’s specific rehabilitation goal. All rehabilitative evaluations, programs and care is overseen by a board-certified ACVSMR Diplomate (Dr. Sherry Johnson). The mobile division of ESMR uses a modified semi-trailer to provide on-site sports medicine care to actively competing Quarter Horses roughly 200 days annually. Most of our practice caseload consists of lameness exams, pre-purchase exams, colic cases, lacerations, performance evaluations, and advanced imaging, including x-rays and ultrasound.
