Description of Elective Experience:

Our goal at PETS Clinic is to introduce 4th-year students to high-volume spay/neuter and non-profit veterinary medicine. Students will gain experience in spay/neuter surgeries enabling them to safely and efficiently perform large numbers. The value of this skill set extends beyond spay/neuter clinics and shelter medicine. As a full-service clinic, students will get hands-on experience in surgeries outside of spay/neuter along with dentals, diagnostics, emergencies, and orthopedics. Students will also have an opportunity to practice in a shelter setting if desired. We are an incredibly busy clinic. We perform around 40 spay/neuters daily and see approximately 80 pets each day for general wellness, injury, and illness. Our clinic prides itself on providing care to pets that may not otherwise receive it. We practice incremental care on a daily basis and feel exposing students to this method of treatment is crucial to ensuring all pets receive the veterinary care they deserve.
